What is the difference when it comes to Relaxation or Deep Tissue Massage? It can be confusing to know what type of massage you need when your unsure of the vocabulary. Here is a quick summary:
Relaxation/Swedish massage: Light, flowing strokes allow the body and mind to relax. When knots and tension are found, they are treated with light and gentle strokes.
Deep Tissue/Deep Pressure: Medium to deep strokes allow for access to the deeper muscle fibers. When knots and tension are found, they are treated with deeper and more firm strokes.
Trigger Point Therapy: The method of releasing trigger points (aka knots) with deep and still pressure.
A massage therapy session typically consists of elements of all 3. By knowing your body and what makes you feel better from a massage, you'll be better able to communicate your needs and preferences in your massage.
